Artist Statement 2019 - exert

“I am a Tasmanian born artist working between Central Australia and Northern NSW, holding a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours from Southern Cross University and a Master of Arts (Research) from Charles Darwin University.  I take as my subject Australian mythic traditions - the politics of gender, landscape and belonging - (in an Australian context) and look to varying and complex associations/attitudes towards identity (particularly femininity) that were engendered in the 19th century, that continue to cast a very long shadow. In particular, i am interested in Australian mythic traditions as they pertain to gendered traits, hypertrophied masculinity/femininity and the narrow association of - flowers as women/women as flowers.”
